I was chatting with my friend Fidel the other day about books we had read while growing up and we came up with this list in no particular order, of the top 10 books every Nigerian who grew up in the 80's ought to have read. Unlike these days when kids hardly read, reading was a very important part of life growing up back then.

Topping the list is Things fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.

Next is An African Nights Entertainment by Cyprian Ekwensi.

And then there is Without a Silver Spoon by Eddie Iroh.

Bottled Leopard By Chukwuemeka Ike is next.

Chinua Achebe makes the list again with Chike and the River.

There is no running away from Chinua Achebe as he is on the list again with Arrow of God, some say they prefer it to Things Fall Apart, I disagree.

And Wole Soyinka makes the list with the all time classic The Jero Plays.

Up next is the God's Are Not to Blame by Ola Rotimi of blessed memory.

Cyprian Ekwensi makes a return with the Passport of Mallam Ilia.

And last but definitely not the least is Sugar Girl by Kola Onadipe.

And there folks is the end of our list. But please do let me know if there is any other books you you read while growing up that you think should have made the list. Till my next post, stay blessed.
